You don’t have to travel too far to find somewhere really special when it comes to cosy cold-weather hideaways as the UK has some of the finest of these in the world.
Here are our top tips for destinations where you can really get away from it all. Just add woolly socks and a nice hot mug of chocolate.
Lundy Island, Bristol Channel

What could be more of a hideaway than a tiny island, only three miles long and half a mile wide and which in winter is most easily reached by helicopter? This granite outcrop, with tremendous views over England, Wales and the Atlantic, has three lighthouses but just one church, one shop, one tavern, one working farm and a population of around 20.
Oh and a lovely castle which, courtesy of the Landmark Trust, you can stay in as well as be accommodated in a lighthouse, a converted pigsty and a stone cottage which sleeps just one person. A completely unspoilt hideaway destination.
