The UK is a place full of May Day Traditions, here are just a few of them...
Come May Day, many people in the UK like to do somthing a little different with their bank holiday weekend. In fact, there are a suprisingly large amount of unique May Day rituals to be found throughout the UK.
Here are just a few:
A traditional festival is the Jack-in-the-Green Morris Festival in Hastings. Revelry-mongers wreak havoc in a wild weekend of dancing from 1st - 4th May.
Held in honour of the 16th century spring maypole antics, it is named after the legendary chimneysweep, Jack - a promiscuous drunk. The stuffy Victorians did not approve and so he was ousted, but by popular request he is now back. Well at least for a bit. The weekend finishes with a traditional Slaying-of-the-Jack ceremony to bring the summer in. That will get a spring in your step.
