It's a brilliant adventure playground with one of the world's coolest cities. Iceland also boasts a unique culture - an intriguing blend of Viking and Celtic laced with a liberal helping of Middle Earth.
Now the only obstacle - high prices - has been removed with the crash of the country's banks. This is the cheapest year to visit the world's most northerly capital and the surrounding volcanoes, fjords, rivers, mountains and waterfalls in more than a decade.
