The weird and the wonderful, we have found some rather wacky hotels from all around the world. Take a look at what we've found...
You may have started to think about your summer holiday by now, if not then you may want to take a look at what we've found, here at Sky Travel. If you're looking for something a little different, we have found some of the world's strangest hotels for you to take a look at.
So if you don't want to stay in the average 'one bed, four walls' kind of joint next time you go away, then take a look at these strange abodes.
Sleep under the stars
Think 'off the beaten track' and a little bit more and this is what you'll find with a visit to Elqui Domos in northern Chile. This 'hotel' is the perfect location for those wishing to simply relax and stargaze. These seven domes with removable roofs and comfortable sleeping quarters are ideal if you want to get close to nature, (without sleeping on the hard ground). The clear skies of the Elqui Valley attract astronomers from all over the world and it's not hard to see why. With no light pollution, and stunning scenery all you have to do is lie back and enjoy a unique and unforgettable trip.

A hotel, made of sand..
The Sand Hotel in Dorset certainly does away with the idea of 4 walls! According to the designers this open air hotel can offer luxury facilities, and it's the largest sand-like structure to be built in the UK. The only downside is that there are no bathrooms or toilets (of roof!).

One for the Elephant lovers
Situated in the stunning scenery of northern Thailand, the Anantara Golden Triangle, is certainly a rather special hotel if you are an elephant lover. Here you can watch elephants being fed, washed and you can even enjoy a ride as it has it's own unique elephant camp for you to enjoy. But, if you fancy something a little closer to home then The Elephant at Pangbourne is also a great hotel to visit. Here you'll find stunning interior and decoration, all in the style of one particular animal...

An upside down room?
Next up is the Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin. The unassuming exterior opens into what must be one of the world's strangest hotels. In this photo we see one of its themed rooms, the 'Upside Down Room'. A night in here is sure to make you lose all bearings.

A floating room?
Staying in Berlin, this is another room from the same hotel, the 'Floating Room'. Check out the rest of the Propeller Island's crazy rooms.

A tight squeeze in Tokyo
Known for squeezing everything into small spaces, this is one of Tokyo's 'Capsule Hotels'. Many of these tiny rooms include a bed and TV, they're not a great idea if you suffer from claustrophobia.

Pamper your pooch
The surroundings and decor in this room may look more familiar than others in this gallery, but this is a hotel for pets only. A perhaps surprising number of such hotels are springing up, see more at the Chateau Poochie website, a hotel dedicated to dogs that offers salon, spa and day care.

Alta Igloo Hotel
Yes, you are seeing this photo correctly - this is the Alta Igloo Hotel in Norway where everything down to the glasses used at the bar are made of ice. But with beds made of reindeer fur and toilets in a wooden building linked to a sauna, there are plenty of spots to warm up in.

Burj al Arab
This 'underwater restaurant' is located in the Burj al Arab hotel, Dubai. Although the restaurant is not actually at a sub-ground level, the underwater experience is certainly real as the restaurant is surrounded by huge aquariums. Eating underwater, that is certainly a strange concept if ever we've heard one.

All aboard the QE2 in Dubai
Once a Cunard Cruise Ship, the Queen Mary has a rich history. She was named by Her Majesty Queen Mary in September 1934, and went on to cruise the world. In November 1972 the Queen Mary Hotel in California opened its first 150 hotel rooms opened and is still open to visitors today. Her sister ship has followed suit. The smart Queen Elizabeth II is now open as a floating hotel in Dubai.

Viva Las Vegas
At first glance, this may look nothing out of the ordinary. But consider that we're in Las Vegas, USA - not Paris, France, and you may think differently. Las Vegas has numerous out-of-the-ordinary hotels, but we've chosen the Paris Las Vegas as the wackiest, thanks to the fact that you can enjoy a swanky meal or cocktails whilst sitting at the top of the French national symbol. Confused?

One for the car lovers
In northern India you can also experience a hotel with a difference. We've chosen this one especially for car lovers. If vintage cars are your thing, then maybe you should stay at The Bagh hotel. This heritage hotel set in 12 acres provides the perfect setting for a luxurious and relaxing stay. But the thing that makes this hotel a little different, is that the owner of the hotel offers some lucky guests a spin in his 1918 Model T Ford. Take a look for yourself if this sounds just up your street.

Chocolate Boutique Hotel
Mmmm...we love chocolate so the idea of a Chocolate Boutique Hotel sounds very appealing. And even better to know that it's in Bournemouth. The bedrooms here are chocolate themed, there are chocolate fountains, chocolate cocktails, and the list goes on. We wouldn't call this strange - I'd say this hotel is how they should all be!

Stay in an underwater hotel
Jules' Undersea Lodge is certainly what you may call a hotel with a difference. Known around the world, this underwater research habitat is open to the public and although it still functions as a research lab you can stay here and use all the facilities to make your time here as comfortable as possible. You stay includes a gourmet dinner, breakfast and diving equipment. And, what's more is that you will also be able to earn a PADI or NAUI certification by taking their Habitat Speciality Program.
