Perhaps the world's most romantic destination - Simone Bienne spends her honeymoon in the Maldives
By Simone Bienne
When I first saw a photo of the Taj Exotica Resort in the Maldives it was a full year before I stayed there. It was typical of the idyllic scene you'd imagine: Pure white sand and scattered wooden villas resting on stilts over some of the clearest sea water you've seen. For the next 12 months, the image had stuck in my head so clearly I could almost feel and smell what it would be like. I knew this was going to be a Honeymoon to remember.
Picture perfect, just as it is in the brochure
Finally the moment I'd been looking forward to came. Arriving at Male airport - with an excited brand new husband in tow - it was only a 15 minute speedboat ride to our hotel. I couldn't have felt more like Ursulla Andress if I tried. (Ok, that's a complete exaggeration - I would need much longer legs, the near perfect face and
that bikini but you know where I'm coming from). The journey was like a scene from a Bond movie. Except for my grin. Which is uncharacteristic on a Bond girl.
When I stepped off the boat and onto the jetty, my smile disappeared. That sounds like it could have been a bad thing. It wasn't. I was simply so stunned by what I saw around me, that the experience was surreal. I felt like I was sleep walking through my finest dream. This place was so spellbindingly beautiful, it was a blue print of paradise.
