From someone who finds it a stressful task organising the simplest of social get-togethers (and that's even with Facebook), the prospect of skilfully co-ordinating my perfect day, keeping bridesmaids happy (experience suggests don't dress them in a lacy pink meringue or force them to hold hands with the spotty page boy), mothers happy (a big bouquet of flowers at the reception should do the trick) and friends happy (free bar), would terrify me enough to contemplate taking my nan up on her offer of the village hall complete with homemade finger buffet and dad dj-ing, no offence dad.

But fear not. There is a solution, and in taking your wedding abroad you acquire the guardian angel and saviour to all brides-to-be: a wedding planner. Someone to organise a venue, flowers, cake, registrar, photographer while all you have to do is worry about topping up that tan on the beach? Yes, put me down for four...

This could also be an ideal way to sell it to your man - let's face it, men are simple creatures and the idea that they won't have to lift a finger, combined with the knowledge that an ‘un-stressed you' means more chance of getting lucky, means you shouldn't have too much trouble suggesting that a tropical beach wedding is the way to go...

Moving swiftly on to point number two in your plan of persuasion. Should your man still not have come round to your way of thinking, although we're quietly confident he will have... then let's talk money. Now, while poor old dad used to get lumbered with the joy of forking out loads of his hard earned cash to see his beloved daughter taken away from him on the arm of a guy resembling a roadie from an unknown 70's rock band, his privileged position as chief financial aid is on the decline.
