The Irish are coming... and they're celebrating hard all over the world.
By Jo Ellis
Everyone wants to be Irish on St Patrick's Day, and now you can! Well you can pretend to be anyway...
Although St Patrick's Day began as a religious celebration of Ireland's patron saint, these days it's a raucous affair which is celebrated with street festivals and parties world wide.
Many good things came out of Ireland - U2, Liam Neeson, Kenneth Branagh, The Pogues, Colin Farrell, Guinness... but surely St Patrick's Day has to be one of the best!
And it seems everybody wants to get in on the act. Here at Sky Travel we've got loads of holidays to get you away for the weekend. And a showing of Riverdance is Sky Real Lives' nod to the day.
One thing you're guaranteed off on St Patrick's Day is a good time. Whether you spend it drinking Guinness in your local Irish-themed pub, or watching one of the ever popular parades in cities around the world.
Here's our guide to places to go, with a few Irish facts thrown in as well.
♣ St Patrick was actually born in Britain to wealthy parents and was kidnapped and taken to Ireland at 16 as a slave.
