As Edinburgh gears up for its 62nd Festival Fringe, Katie Silcox finds out what it's all about.
So, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has reached a grand age of 62. Quite impressive for an event that began in ‘a disused pub with a leaky roof', as professed on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe website.
In those 62 years, the festival has become a hugely popular and well known event - even for those who have never ventured into Edinburgh. Perhaps now is the time.
As ever, the 2008 event is set to stage an exhilarating mix of Comedy, Theatre, Dance, Music and Children's shows. The Festival Fringe has always aspired to showcase talented newcomers and this year will be no exception with an estimated 18,792 performers featuring in more than 31,000 shows.
But, if its famous faces you're after then you need look no further as the celebs appear to be lining up ready to perform. See the musical talents of Kate Nash and Dizzee Rascal - among others, while other household names include Bill Bailey, Jimmy Carr and Ruby Wax.
And if all this sounds too good to be true, then why not head to Edinburgh and check it out for yourself?
