Tempt your taste-buds in North West England with a trial of the foodie trail
By Anthea Gerrie
From Liverpool to the Lakes, foodies are making an unlikely pilgrimage to the industrial towns and resorts of the north-west to sample some of the tastiest modern grub Britain has to offer.
Morecambe, Southport and Ramsbottom may not seem the most obvious venues for gourmet nosh, but you'd better believe it - the land of pie and mash has spawned a royal flush of award-winning restaurants.
Ramsons, for one. This unpreposessing restaurant next door but one to a knicker-shop in Ramsbottom on a busy lorry route, has just been named the Good Food Guide's Restaurant of the Year.
