Sky Travel's Katie Silcox recently spent some time hiking the Italian Alps. Rather than being hard work however, she found a place to relax and be pampered.

Unless you brush up on your facts, this may well be your first thought on arriving in the South Tyrol region of Italy.
Proud of its Dolomite mountains and its tri-lingual community (yes, Italian is one of the three along with German and a local dialect, Ladin), South Tyrol makes a perfect break for almost any occasion; honeymoon, girly get-away, with the parents, with the in-laws... hey, I'd even go with the staff that serve me coffee every morning if it gave me an excuse to return!
The area's stunning mountainous landscape is the perfect setting to get away from your hectic lifestyle and to revitalise. And at 1,500 metres I was sure to be breathing in some of the finest air to help me do just this.
The Dolomite Mountains, simply stunning
In winter South Tyrol is a popular ski resort bursting with life and vigour, and the region certainly doesn't disappoint as the snow melts to reveal the green grass.
In fact, at this time of year there is still plenty to do in the area and you can be super active or super relaxed. Personally, I'd recommend you do a bit of both.
Whilst here, I stayed in Hotel Adler - the perfect place to do as you please. Just minutes after arriving I felt refreshed and relaxed and there's something energising about knowing that you can get out in the fresh air, hike the mountains and be as active as you like, but to know that you're returning to a peaceful hotel with tranquil spa treatments to chill out after a long day.
