As Wanderlust magazine kick off their campaign for tourists to dress the part when abroad, we take a look at just what that might mean wearing...
By Katie Silcox
Travel magazine Wanderlust have this week launched a campaign called Put Your Brits Away, urging people to think about what they wear whilst abroad and to keep in line with local customs.
It comes as model, Katie Price was recently reprimanded for sunbathing topless on the balcony of her Maldives hideaway.
Although for Katie and thousands of others visiting places such as the south of France, this may not seem like outrageous behaviour - neither the authorities or locals of the Muslim Maldives were best pleased and it was even reported that Price could have ended up in jail for her actions.
But you don't have to strip off completely to be flouting local dress laws abroad, and this is central to Wanderlust's campaign - they want travellers to think about where they are and dress appropriately to local norms and laws.
Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Lyn Hughes states: 'As a nation we are travelling outside of Europe more frequently, especially with the arrival of cheap flights to destinations such as Morocco and Egypt'.
And it is this that seems to be causing our fashion faux pas, dress such as vest tops and shorts may not get a second look in Spain but head to Egypt and it's a different story.
Take a look at our photo gallery to find out more about local dress in a number of destinations:
A tourist is dressed by a local in Douz, Tunisia. In this photo we see a woman being fitted with traditional headwear, but this isn't the only traditional dress you'll find worn here. Others include for women a djellaba or kaftan, and for men a jalabiyya.
