They all promise to pamper and spoil, and leave you feeling like a new person, but which is the best spa at sea? Cruise journalist Jane Archer picks her top five.
1. When it comes to pampering, Princess Cruises knows how.
The Lotus Spa is a haven of peace and tranquillity where therapists work their magic on your face, feet and every bit of body in between. In the Rasul room, couples can strip off and get muddy together; everyone can get hot and steamy in the thermal suite.
2. Everyone's a star in Celebrity Cruises' AquaSpa, where there are massages, mud wraps and manicures, a thalassotherapy pool to iron out tired muscles and a Persian Garden with warm marble loungers to laze on.
Book an AquaSpa cabin on new ship Solstice, launching in December, and there's no need ever to leave.
3. Big is beautiful with Costa Cruises' Samsara Spa on Costa Concordia and Costa Serena (featured in the video on this page).
Split over two decks, there's a tepidarium, Turkish bath, rock sauna and thalassotherapy pool downstairs and therapists waiting with top-to-toe treatments upstairs. Spa junkies can book a Samsara suite, which comes with free treatments and a thermal suite pass.
