Discover some Parisian secrets with Simon Calder. He shows you how to see new things, even if you have visited the French capital many times before.
By Simon Calder
Never been to Paris? Lucky you. The French capital is more accessible, beautiful and visitor friendly than ever. The full high-speed Eurostar timetable between London St Pancras and Paris Gare du Nord is now in operation, connecting the two greatest cities in Western Europe in 2 hours, 15 minutes. The challenge for the visitor is to make the most of the first few hours in this sublime city. With so much on offer, how can you make sure you get the best possible first impression? That is what I have sought to portray, setting out a trail from the Gare du Nord to the Louvre, taking in some of the highlights - not all of them on the usual tourist trail. So even if you have been to Paris a million times, you may find a secret or two here.
