Can you still bag a bargain in New York?
New York traditionally tops everyone's tree in terms of shopping, particularly at this time of year.
But with the pound having plunged against the dollar, is it still worth heading over to the Big Apple for the sales?
It was only six months ago when I was happily filling my handbag (not in a shoplifting way of course) in LA and being rewarded with just over two dollars for one little pound for my efforts.
An absolute bargain.
But the drop in exchange rate has hit hard in terms of buying power so I thought I would head over to New York and see just how heavily it has hammered.
Shoppers enjoy some shopping on Fifth Avenue
An exhausting day traipsing around New York's lengthy avenues (the things I do for you, hey?) reveals that, despite early reductions of up to 50% from small and big brands alike, the conversion rate means the bargains are just not there like they used to be.
It's not strictly expensive, it's just pretty commensurable with what we pay back home and that's without factoring in some of the great deals we are getting in the UK at the moment.
Okay, no-one just goes to New York solely for the shops as there's a wealth of other attractions from the cultural sights, to the museums and the best brunches this side of, well, lunchtime, but the slump in sterling has somewhat taken the thrill out of the chase.
