Sailing in the Red Sea - Handbag, Heels and Passport

Video Playing Now: Handbags, Heels & Passport: Yachting on the Red Sea

Having spent many a happy childhood holiday in a camper van in the south of France before moving to the Costa Del Sol I’ve spent a considerable amount of time gawping at luxury boats.

From sail boats to speed boats, huge floating palaces and even one with its own helicopter pad, the family and I would stroll at sunset through the marinas of Monaco or Marbella, eating ice-creams and eyeing with awe people enjoying dinner or drinks on the decks of their zillion pound toys.

Now, as I sit here on such a deck in the Red Sea, glass of rosé  in hand, with waves gently lapping the million pound catamaran that’s cradling me, I am finally taking in the view from the other side.

Nicodemus and her sister ship Romy have been gracing the Senai Peninsula for several months and these majestic catamarans, sails soaring high as they slip side by side through the turquoise waters from Eilat towards Egypt, are a stunning sight to behold.

I can hardly believe my luck.

Club La Costa Yacht Club is all about having your own slice of an Abramovich-level luxury lifestyle without any of the pressures or expense of owning your own boat.

From the moment you step on board, kicking off now-redundant footwear and settling down for a sunset cocktail, you’ve entered a world of luxury that I for one never imagined I could realistically afford.

After a night in the marina and a lavish breakfast we set forth towards Egypt, stopping for a few hours in an opal-watered cove for snorkelling and swimming before another sumptuous spread for lunch in the shade of the canopy.

This was to prove to be our ‘schedule’ for the rest of the week, alighting at various marinas or anchoring at sea, marvelling at the steep landscapes of Jordan and Egypt passing by before jumping into the water again for more snorkelling, kayaking, water skiing or just hanging around on deck with a book.

Hmm... is it time for another fresh-fish barbecue already...?

Harping back to my campervan days, I used to love the little gadgets in our VW and boy has technology moved on since then.

My gorgeous cabin, with a double bed, porthole and skylight, comes with an ensuite shower room and outside on deck there are hot and cold showers for washing off the salty water, built in barbecue stands, cubby holes for hammocks and every conceivable addition to make life just that little bit easier.

In the well-equipped kitchen Kate, one half of our hosts for the week, cooks gourmet masterpieces every meal time using fresh, local ingredients whilst both Kate and partner Rob sail during the day, mapping out our route to ensure everyone’s wishes are catered for.

Both are happy to offer sailing lessons or hand over the helm to those with more experience on the seas.

Having spent the off-peak season in the Red Sea the boats are now heading up towards Turkey where they will spend the summer exploring the coasts and islands of the Aegean region.

After that they are probably coming back down to the Red Sea for the warm winter, but last summer saw them in Mallorca and next year might see them in the Caribbean.

So members of the yacht club are often delighted by a different location as well as having the opportunity to go back and explore their favourites.

They say the best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it and I imagine that owning a yacht can be something of a labour of love.

However, join the Club La Costa Yacht Club and you can indulge in all the good bits, without having to own your own football team.
