Things To Do in Bangkok

  1. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo

    One of Bangkok's most stunning sights is the magnificent Grand Palace, and it certainly is Grand. This impressive building, dating back to the 18th century was built to mark the founding of the new capital. Once a Royal residence, The Grand Palace most importantly is the shrine for the Emerald Buddha Phra Kaeo, who was laid to rest here. Within the palace grounds is where you'll find Thailand's most sacred shrine Wat Phra Kaeo, but before you enter you must cover your knees and heels. There's also a number of other sacred buildings, artwork and monuments to discover.

  2. Chinatown

    Bangkok's Chinatown was once the financial centre of the city, but visit this vibrant and bustling part of the city today and you'll find a maze of lively markets, sacred Chinese shrines and some truly great places to eat and relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. As one of the oldest areas of the city, the atmosphere has maintained its traditional roots and is doesn't feel touristy. As well as sampling some of the tasty Chinese cuisine, head to Yaowarat road and browse the exciting range of Thai-Chinese gold on offer. You'll be amazed with the choice and there's also some real bargains so you can take a souvenir of your trip home with you.

  3. Wat Pho

    Wat Pho, which is also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha is Bangkok's oldest and largest temple. Home to the largest Buddha in Thailand, the reclining Buddha and more Buddha images than any other temple in Thailand Wat Pho is a place not to missed whilst in Bangkok. This magnificent building with other numerous ornate monuments, artwork and interesting artefacts is also known as the birthplace of the Thai massage.

  4. Wat Arun

    Seeing is believing with Wat Arun, this magnificent piece of architecture is one of Bangkok's most impressive landmarks. The decorative exterior of this large temple is what draws tourists to it. Also known as Temple of the Dawn, you can get great views of the structure from across the river, its height makes it easy to see from far away. Made up of one main prang surrounded by other prangs, you can take some steep steps part the way up the main prang, where you can appreciate the beauty of the city from a different perspective.

  5. Dusit

    If you're looking for some calm and more tranquil surroundings than the rest of Bangkok, then head to the area of Dusit. With a break from the high rise buildings of the rest of the city, here you'll find parks, traditional buildings and a relaxed atmosphere. Explore the charming park, browse the museums and temples and you can even have fun in the zoo. Dusit offers a fine example of the diversity of the city of Bangkok.

  6. Damnoen Saduak floating Market

    Looking for a traditional Thai experience then head to the daily floating market found in the district of Damnoen Saduak. Make sure you get to this busy and chaotic place bright and early in the morning to get your hands on some fresh fruit, vegetables, silk, toys and much more. Hundreds of farmers from the surrounding areas bring their boats and produce to the canal which is bursting with traders and shoppers. A visit to this most unusual place will provide you with an experience you will never forget.
