Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur itself offers all you'd expect from a city break. The shopping is exemplary, from cheap and cheerful markets that sell everything you could think of, up to well designed, modern shopping centres with designer brands at prices that are often cheaper than those in the UK. And because it's a 24 hour city you can always find places to shop.

Scuba Diving
Of course many tourists visit Kuala Lumpur en route to a beach resort, and the coastline is generally very impressive. If you want to do a bit more than lying around soaking up the sun then you'll often find water sports are available. The scuba diving in Malaysia is very good; there's a real abundance of marine life, including barracudas, Murray eels and black tip sharks!

Malaysia's Wildlife
Malaysia's wildlife is a big attraction, and there's plenty to see in both parts. The Orang-utans probably get the most attention, and the best place to see these is the Sepilok Sanctuary in Sabah, Eastern Malaysia. Jungle trekking is a very popular pastime around here. There are gibbons, proboscis monkeys and hornbills to be seen, as well as many insects, frogs and even snakes! Alternatively the Cameron Highlands in Peninsular Malaysia are a good place to explore if you're interested in Malaysia's fauna. There are many orchid varieties here, and on a guided trek you can find out about the different plants and how indigenous people have used them for medicinal purposes.

Activities
Those that prefer to stay at the water's surface can easily snorkel in Malaysia, and you'll often find that kayaking, or wind surfing are possible. Golf is another popular activity in the Cameron Highlands, and there are also excellent courses in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Pulau Pinang and Pulau Tioman.

Nightlife
Malaysia has a number of restaurants and bars catering to tourist's tastes, as well as those frequented by locals, which foreigners are invariably welcome at. Although Malaysia is a Muslim country alcoholic drinks are widely available, and are usually pretty affordable, with local beer the best option for those on a tight budget.
Kuala Lumpur is the best option for those seeking fashionable and lively nightlife. Here there are many classy bars, and popular nightclubs. The atmosphere is good fun; Malaysian people are generally very friendly and love to see Westerners having a good time with them. Away from the city some of the resorts which offer a more relaxing holiday do wind down a bit earlier than others. But the nightlife is usually in keeping with the atmosphere of the resort.
Many markets and shops are open in the evening as well and busy places tend to really come alive at night time. As temperatures cool a little this can be the perfect opportunity to hit the shops and haggle for a few souvenirs.
