There are probably few US States that are both as famous and as diverse as California.
Forming a large part of the American Pacific coastline, it stretches from the hot deserts of the Baja peninsular in the South to the green Sequoia-rich forests in the northern part of the State, and inland to the rugged Sierra Nevada mountain range.
In between are cities and places even most children would recognise: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Malibu and the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
But there's so much more to the State. Its agriculture alone has propelled California into global consciousness, with vineyards producing wines that rival the best 'Old World' European estates. Its orange groves go on seemingly forever, bringing that ‘fresh-squeezed' taste to the world.
The outdoor lifestyle is King here and Californians taking full advantage of their tropical climate, with backyard pools and barbeques, surfing at their incredible beaches, and hiking in the stunning Californian countryside.
By all means, allow the allure of its big cities entice you to California, but do try and make time to explore even a tiny part of the rest of the State, it's utterly irresistible.
As California Governor, Arnold Schwazenegger says, when it comes to visiting the Sunshine State, "What are you waiting for?"
