Situated in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is a beautiful city inspired by classical Renaissance design. The Florentine architecture, sculptures and paintings are like no other; grand cathedrals, picturesque squares, and many many renowned art galleries give Florence its well-deserved title as the ‘City of Art'.
Those who like to shop will not be disappointed either, fashionable stores sell designer labels, while a number of markets, notably the San Lorenzo market, are the areas to head for some unique gifts and traditional foods.
Eating out in Florence is always a pleasure, although not necessarily what you would expect. With possibly the most varied cooking customs in all of Italy, many typical dishes are based on breads, fish, and meats, although of course you will find plenty of traditional Pizzerias lining the streets. And why not wash down your meal with a glass of Chianti, the famous Tuscan wine. What better way to relax after exploring this magnificent city?

A symbol of Florence, the Duomo is Florence's tallest building and Europe's fourth largest church. With some sections thought to date to the 4th century, the Baptistry is also perhaps the city's oldest building. Its incredible marble-detail façade looks out onto the city, while the famous orange dome stands tall, offering visitors a breath-taking view over all of Florence. Inside, 13th century mosaics, 15th century paintings and stained-glass windows maintain the essence of a cathedral. Be sure to head to the top of the dome for fantastic views over Florence.
