October 25,2009:
We booked a room the day we arrived in glasgow through expedia and Ewington had one of the best rate so we went there. It's a little far from the city centre, you can't go walking but it's located in front of a very nice park, so the vue is great. We were astonished when we saw the room, it was very big with a beautiful bed (very comfortable too), the window was very big too with a beautiful vue. It felt like being in a castle ;) Thw wireless is free and that's great because in many hotel it's outragously expensive (5£ for one hour) The staff was very nice too, and the breakfast perfect. There is buffet with a wide choice! I would definitly recommend this hotel because it's our best "souvenir" in Glasgow. In fact we left Glasgow quite quick because it was really dull but we could have stayed only for the hotel :) -
October 12,2009:
We read the bad reviews but decided to go ahead and book at the offer rate knowing there were many good places to eat within a few hundred metres. We also understand that this was not going to be 5star. It states it is 3 star!!! What were these negative people expecting (maybe they just had a bad experience)? We had an easy bus ride from Central Station - 10 mins on the 5, 44,44A or 66. Got off at Queens Park entrance. Walked 150 metres to the right. Lovely park with gardens, ponds, heated greenhouses and cafe. (A shame hotels do not give public transport info) However, plenty of free parking around for those with the car) Friendly warm reception on arrival, in lovely modern area with lounge. All staff we met smiled and spoke in a friendly manner. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and with a well appointed bathroom. Tired maybe, but NOT dirty at all. If anyone wants 'not tired' do international hotel chain and pay MUCH more for less atmosphere and no personal touch from anyone (usually). T ( At least - I could not get it to work!)here was a hairdryer but the TV did not work. Housekeeping responded quickly to a request for an additional pillow and there were well stocked tea/coffee facilities. Breakfast was replenished frequently as required, huge choice and cooked breakfast was much enjoyed. Plenty of piping hot coffee. Fridge full of yoghurts! Bar was staffed by extremely friendly guy who, when we wished to, chatted away with us. Only 2 other comments: The offer price is too low even for a special - we would have been happy to pay that price pp. Disappointed there was no toast for breakfast - silly thing but, it is a fact! Think again before rejecting this on the bad comments - motels cost more and offer nothing like this. -
September 27,2009:
I had read previous reviews and found I was pleasantly suprised. Yes the decor is " Tired" and the lift is quaint. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the room was clean, there was a wide choice for breakfast and because of the method of booking it was very cheap. I would and probably will stay there again. -
September 22,2009:
When we got to our room we were met with two single beds pushed together in place of the double bed. As if this wasn't bad enough one of the beds was higher than the other. On our first night the fire alarm went off 3 times! The fire brigade had to come out twice before we were told there was a fault on the system. There was no mention or apology for this at the time or the next day. The staff were nice and friendly but i would not recommend the hotel. -
August 25,2009:
On arrival at the Hotel we were met by a massive queue trying to get into the lift which only could take 2 people at one time, bearing in mind i was among a coach load of people booked in at this Hotel. Our room was clean but very tired looking. I have been in much better Hotel rooms for a lot less money. After being appalled by the room we then ventured down for our meal, soup of the day was water, main meal was cold and would'nt feed a small child. Chef did not turn up to make the breakfasts the following morning ( must of got another job in a better Hotel?). There was no tea, I have seen thicker wallpaper than the toast, cereal was tasteless, when they finally brought out the breakfast in dribs and drabs, that too was cold. Overall service was terrible hardly saw any of the staff. Found out that the Hotel was in Receivership!!!!!!! People need to complain more about the state of our Hotels in Britain because if we don't it will always be like it is - terrible.
