August 8,2009:
we had a fantastic week at the Bel Azur in July. It was our second time there and everything was great !!! the food was fab , and plenty of it, yes there are some rude people who don't like to queue but you can get that anywhere. The beach is amazing and the sunbeds are free if you put your own out which we did , and they had plenty of sunbeds too, on the beach and around the pool , lots of places to sunbathe! we had a lovely comfy room as did my mum . Id definately go back again , two weeks next time!!! -
August 7,2009:
I was anxious, not been on holiday before with my 15 year old and 9 year old daughters on my own to a foreign country. I admit the hotel needs updating, and the reception staff could do with learning english (think they do speak it, just pretend not to kinda thing). The pillows are seriously uncomfortable so bring your own if you can. Other than that, I cannot complain a bit. The animation team of an evening are fantastic with kids. The entertainment is varied, mostly pretty good to be honest. One night they did River Dance and I have to say it was brilliant. The food is good - way better than i expected. Im pretty fussy and dont like to stay in sub-standard places, never have. My kids and i are desperate to go back. We had the best holiday of our lives so far. Weather was good - had a few very windy days and a thunder storm for an hour, other than that clear blue skies. The excursions on offer are varied - i wouldnt bother with the horse and cart, all you see is a load of cactus along the side of a road to be honest. I would recommend the pirate ship if you have kids. I travelled with Thomas Cook - they were fantastic, my rep, Steve, couldnt have done more for me. Had a few problems and noticed day before travel that my passport had expired. Steve managed to let me stay in hotel for extra time at no extra charge (the hotel wanted to charge me another £1000 for 3 days despite saying i could stay for another £200 when i called to inform them what had happened). The cleaners cannot be more helpful, and maintenance is good. we had a problem with our shower and it was sorted within the hour. You need to tip everbody, from waiters to bar staff to cleaners so bear that in mind with your budget. Drinks in the hotel are cheap by tunisian standards but not that cheap with what you would expect while on holiday. Its about £6 for a bottle of local wine, which really is quite nice. If you want branded spritis like gordans gin, you're looking at about £18 a shot, it is a muslim country afterall. I would go back again, possibly every year during may half term. Not in summer, can imagine it would be over crowded. The animation team really do make your holiday, they aim to please and they do. we absolutely loved them - they made my 9 year old the centre of attention. Go............. you will be pleasantly surprised! trust me!! -

some facts before you decide.if you have travelled around a bit inc asia you will find this hotel a let down. it is definitely a three star med hotel. rooms need an upgrade but perfectly usuable with good size balconies. try to get one that does not face the pool as the music at night is loud. the rooms close to the beach looked nice althought he same kind of decor. get a safety deposit box when you arrive, then no problems with anything missing from the room. aircon works but can make the room smell sometimes this is what you smell in reception. never had any problems with the reception staff but some of the waiting staff can be hit and miss and do ignore you if you try to get your attention. the others make up for it with their friendliness. lots of russians east europeans but this now the norm wherever you go and yes they are greedy and push in! guy who works the beach to save the loungers, totally miserable if you prefer to sort it out yourself but with a six year old we were up early. night time entertainment bordered on the butlins and very repetetive but good fun to watch other people dancing and copying the guys on stage quite sad watching grown adults! food was ok.... breakfast starts at 6am but not everything is available and they run out quick. dinner was like a school canteen and make sure it's piping hot and thoroughly cooked once again russians and algerians were the real problem with pushing and over loading but great desserts and pastries. not far to centre of hammamet but lots of tat to sort through if you can be bothered. beach is lovely with doughnuts and fresh fruit to buy but haggle on the fruit. doughnuts about 2 dinar and they are yummy. will also bring drinks to the loungers. on the whole an ok hotel but we had the cheapest holiday than the other brits who flew at the same time and would not want to pay any more than we did. better value than the euro med but not as good value as asia and indonesia for price and quality. if you want to book a private transfer then dont go through the holiday company as it is a rip off . we payed £35 each way in a taxi and that was for three people. contact me if you want the person we booked through he is recommended. would we go again?? would check the prices first and against the sol azur next door although the bel azur has prettier grounds. -
July 30,2009:
Stayed for two weeks. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly apart from the receptionists who were incredibly rude and did not speak much english. The food was not great but we did not have high expectations. The private beach is ok. Loved the fact that you could use the facillities of the two other hotels on the resort - Sol Azur and Royal Azur. We preferd the Sol Azur and actually spent everyday at that pool. Animation teams are great entertainment in the day time and in the evening. I especially recommened seeing the Michael Jackson show at the Bel Azur ampie theatre. It was amazing, the guy who played micheal Jackson was a fantastic dancer. They change every show adding different songs. It lasts about an hour and a half. Go early to get a good seat. Do not go to the Madina in Hammamet go to the one in Yasmine. The people selling are incredibly pushy and it is really clostraphoic, my family and i had a horrible experience there. The locals are really friendly. DONT GO TO THE RESTURANT THAT IS ON THE BEACH, i mean the one actually on the sand, they ripped us off and were charging us double the price for an entire week before we noticed! Although the staff are friendly everywhere they are really greedy so remeber to always count your change!! Over all had a really great holiday and would go back but would stay in the Sol Azur Hotel instead. -
July 28,2009:
From getting there,to coming home was a nightmare, the place itself is an absolute discrace Dont be fooled by its 3 star plus tag. On arriving at the hotel at 2.30pm after a 3 hour flight and 2 hour +transfer, the receptionist told us the room would be another hour before it would be ready. When we finally got to the room, which was on the 1st floor, the beds still not made, rubbish in the bins and no clean towells. We decided to freshen up,get changed ,and then go to reception to complain about the room. On leaving the room we were confronted by a rather large "rat" running about just outside the room.(we got video evidence of this to show to thomas cook) When we told the reception manager about the rat,he told us it was because of the warm weather.! and said, we would after wait untill after breakfast the following day to be moved. The following morning we went to reception, they gave us the choice of 2 rooms, both of which were on the same landing, after refusing these we got offered a bungalow, about 300yds from the hotel,it was very cramped, but we accepted this,at least we would be away from the rats... The food in the hotel was very repetative at meal times, and you were constantley getting queue jumped by ignorant russians. if you fancy a change from the hotel(which i gauentee, you will) go to the cap azur restaurant, you wont be dissapointed. The swimming pool was not safe at all(use the pool at the royal next door) Other incidents that happened were- another encounter with a rat outside the ampitheatre,in broad daylight, which other guests witnessed, this was running under tables were guests were sat eating at. Waiters picking bread rolls up off the floor in the dinning area and putting them back in the baskets for guests to eat. Cats in the dinning area at meal times.and cockroach,s. Food at the back of the serving counter on the floor,at breakfast time from the previous evening.(i took photo,s of this to show my tour operator) Numerous guests with food poisoning including my daughter who could,nt eat for 3 days. A couple from liverpool having there passports and credit cards taken out of their luggage and put under their beds, they also had clothes stolen from their cases. all in all not the holiday we bargained for. tunisia itself is a great place ,great beach,s and great weather. I hope this list of disaster serves as a warning to people thinking of booking the bel azur as their next holiday ,and that the management cleans their act up....
