November 11,2009:
We were looked after by the happiest friendly staff we have yet encounted in BANGKOK and this is our 5th visit to this always polite country. The staff could not have done more for us well and above just a job to them, and the big smiles that greeted us each morning were heart warming.Even the places the staff recommended were not tourist only haunts even to private car drivers that didn't try the usual "come to my cousins jewellery shop" trick.Great rooms, very large and spotless. -
October 11,2009:
We spent 3 night nights at this hotel at the end of our Thailand trip. The hotel was celebrating its 11th birthday and its age is showing. The rooms are looking tired and are in need of a refurbishment but are kept clean by the hard working and friendly house keeping staff. The public areas are holding up slightly better. They serve a very good selection of food for breakfast although depending on the time you venture in for this it can be very crowded. One thing that was good was the pool which we basically had to ourselves most of the time as the majority of guests were Indian tourists who have the good sense to not want to bake in the sun. Some previous reviews complained about the location but as long as you know where you are going it is only about 10 minutes walk to the best shopping in Bangkok at the Pratinum Market and surrounding malls. For the money you pay you can get better deals elseware in Bangkok eg Centre Point Petchburi 15. -
October 9,2009:
Our 2 day stay at the Ramada D'ma, Bangkok was just about okay. The air conditioning was either too warm or too cold, our bedroom windows faced a dull grey wall and the shower in the bathroom was again too cold or too hot. Ideal for travellers who spend most of their time shopping out in Bangkok . -
August 12,2009:
I came to bangkok for a leisure trip and of course shopping. The hotel is neat, clean and has proximity to the major shopping malls, has a nice pool on the 8th floor ( though it closes by 9:00 PM, pity), the experience is lovely while you swim and use the pool side bar and watch the bangkok skyline. You can have a hearty breakfast (sans indian menu) sumptous and tasty. The check in and check out was quick, they accomodated our luggage in the lobby while we shopped on the last day. Some people may not find the location very impressive as it is not on the main street and one has to walk through the local markets to get on the main rd to get to the malls. Do take the Hotel card for the Taxi as not many are able to catch up the hotels name. Overall a decent hotel to stay at. -
July 12,2009:
I stayed with a friend at The Ramada D?MA for four nights from 6th July 2009. It was my fifth stay in various hotels in Bangkok. The room on the 23rd floor was spotless and beautifully decorated. We had a superb view over the city. It appears that ?odd? numbered rooms face the plain wall of the Eastin Hotel next door, whilst ?even? numbers get the views. The bathroom was huge with separate bath and shower cubicle. There were plenty of complimentary toiletries available. The beds were hard, as is normal in Thailand, but there were six huge pillows which made up for this. The pool, gym and sauna were superb and would grace a five star establishment. Breakfast was good with plenty of selections to suit all tastes. Staff were attentive and generally service was very good. There was a mixed international clientele due to a conference being held while we were there and (like another reviewer) we noticed a large Indian presence but this is not a problem to seasoned travellers. Turn right out of the hotel and along the street you will find family run ?Pa Pu? for delicious great value Thai food, and further along ?Kluay? for seafood. The metered coupon-taxi from the airport cost 200B + 50B airport surcharge + 25B expressway toll + tip. The return trip cost 200B + tip, travelling on the old road. We took the taxi from around the corner, not from the hotel. Now, to address a few moans and groans in other posts.... (1) ?bad part of town? Rubbish! A lot of Bangkok is like this area. It?s called ?local colour? and is what many tourists like to see. Lone men do get ?touted? for ?business? at night. Just politely decline the offers and walk away. (2) ?check-in coupon for free drink? Complaint that you cannot choose the drink. For goodness sake ! It?s a welcoming gesture. Non-alcoholic fruit punch is what you normally receive, not booze. (3) ?strange, it was easier to find the pricelist for damaging the room than the minibar pricelist? To be expected when some idiotic tourists think it?s ?fun? to get henna tattoos and bring mangosteens into the rooms. White linen is totally ruined by these strong dyes. (4) ?quite a way to the skytrain? I walk quickly and it took me 15 minutes to Chit Lom station. Barter with tuk-tuk drivers for a good deal if you don?t want to walk. Incidentally we walked across to Siam Paragon on more than one occasion. It takes about 25 minutes. There is a huge selection of food and shopping around the ?Siam? area. (5) ?felt hassled by taxidrivers near the hotel? Some people are delicate... Just smile and firmly say ?No thank you?. The price hike scam between taxidrivers and hotel door staff happens all over the world. Hail your taxi around the corner. When the Ratchaprarop airport skytrain station opens later this year (just a few minutes walk around the corner) this hotel will be easy to access. I very much look forward to returning here next time I visit Bangkok.
