October 24,2009:
what i love at eden alcudia is its location, it's relatively a beachfront hotel yet very accessible from the road as there's a bus stop just few steps away from the hotel's lobby. outside is a convenient store for groceries and sundries, if you walk a little farther you'll find a big grocers that practically ahs everything. but the best feature of this hotel is its kitchen and personal refrigerator. it saves a lot of money preparing your own meal than dining out in the rip off restaurant around the area. if you must dine out, you have to go to a nearby town polenca, the foods are not only reasonably price, but are top class too. -
October 7,2009:
I have stayed in the resort of Alcudia on a number of occassions, and had a wonderful time which made it an easy choice when looking for a week of relaxation on a lovely beach. If only I hadn't stayed at the Eden Alcudia. The pool area and reception at this accommodation is nice, and it is 2 mins to the beach with no roads to cross. However, those were about the only plus points as the rooms and facilities were more than disappointing. The studio room was tiny, there were no beds only a sofa each to sleep on, and the furniture in the room was dated and shabby. This place must make a fortune out of people having to pay to 'upgrade' to a room which does have actual beds and a bit of space. This is not a 3 star plus accommodation. I was told by the travel rep that the hotel got its stars for its facilities but to be honest I wasn't quite sure what facilites he was talking about. It has a gym... in a damp basement. They also have a courtesy room for you on the day of departure... well, by that I mean the poolside toilets and shower. Don't be fooled by the high star rating and that photo of the nice pool that seems to crop a lot. This hotel is 2 star:- basic facilities, small dingy rooms, absolutely not worth your money. -
September 27,2009:
The hotel is advertised on various other websites as four star. It is most certainly not! To start off with the good points: it backs on to the sea, which is great since you do not have to cross the massive, busy road infront of it. Although the pool area is much smaller than it looks on the official pictures, it is nice and clean and definitely much better then the once we've seen in other hotels on the same road. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the rooms are clean. We have never seen such a busy cleaning team. The negative side: the studio apartments are all TINY (all rooms are the same). What you get is a small kitchen area (be warned, there is no salt, pepper, etc and the supermarket which are within walking distance are VERY expensive. We had a car and shopped in the local Mercadona and Eroski for half the price!) and two sofabeds opposite each other. If one of you likes to go to bed before your partner... We 'upgraded' to an apartment. With an apartment they simply unlock the connecting door which gets you another studio apartment but with a double bed. Everything else is the same. We were glad, we did it though. Not only did it give us enough wardrobe space (we had very little stuff with us due to Ryanair's restrictions) but one of us having an early night didn't not mean the other one had to go to bed too. Also, we saw a lot of couples with prams, which they, in their desperation, left outside their studio apartments. How they coped with the little space one can only guess. The decor is dated, to put it politley (1970?) and in urgent need of updating. We are not into hotel entertainment, which was good, since all they did in the evening was having their 'entertainment staff'' dress up in various silly costumes and mime to a CD (we did have a good laugh though). The area itself is lovely. The beach is great for families with children. If you can hire a car, do so because the island is lovely and you can go shopping at the local supermarkets at good prices. If you can't hire a car, there are regular bus services to most of the interesting places on Mallorca. Alcudia is the nearest town and is well worth a visit. Food: there are a couple of restaurants around (even an Irish Bar), which are reasonably priced. The main 'hub' though, with a good choice of cheap and cheerful restaurants are further down the road and I am afraid, a little too far away to walk. We did not eat at the hotel but heard from other people that the food was very good. In summary: we had a great time and are glad we 'upgraded' because otherwise our 11 night stay would have been very unpleasant. We will go back to Mallorca but most certainly will not be staying at the Eden Alcudia again. -
September 26,2009:
This was the 5th time in 3 years that I've been to the Eden. I came across it 3 years ago after wandering into the grounds which lead on to the beach. The pool is the best bit, quite warm and there's a big main pool with an inset with palm trees, leading to a ledge which overlooks another pool situated lower down. The big pool is deep enough to dive and swim and the smaller is for the not so good swimmers and pool games, oh, there's a small kiddies pool as well. There's a bit of land next door where they have ball games and donkey rides, on occasion. The kids clubs are brilliant, adult daytime stuff includes pool games, archery and the like. There's a cheap poolside bar, outdoor snooker table and sunbeds are released about 9am where the queues are very small. Next door is a supermarket with all you could ever want. The beach is 50 yards from the pool. There's a kids disco and then other entertainment most evenings. The staff are brilliant, helpful and friendly. Excursions are offered and the Pirate Show is a MUST! Rooms are clean, air conditioned and towels are changed regularly. You can also ask for clean towels off the cleaners who are always happy to oblige. Centrally located in 1 of the two main shopping areas of Alcudia with plenty of restaurants. Overall, this place is brilliant. I'd reccommend it to everyone. -
September 15,2009:
We have just returned after a week there half board. The place is nice and clean with maid service every day except a Thursday, but the rooms are really small. Gladly we weren't self catering as we would have been pretty annoyed if we had to use the tiny kitchen area and 2 pans provided, but we got used to the lack of space. One thing I would mention is that if you opened the bathroom door, there was a terrible foostie smell, as though there was a problem with drainage. It's the first time we've ever been to a hotel where there is no tv or hairdryer, but we were able to get a tv by paying 20 euros for the week. The hotel didn't seem that full, but there was a severe shortage of sunbeds, so we had to go to the beach and pay 9 euros for two beds. The location of the hotel is brilliant, right next to the beach, and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel so you can travel to C'an Picafort and Porto Polensa. We ate in the hotel for four nights, but had enough of the restaurant after that. We're not fussy eaters, but the cuts of meat available were cheap, and some meat and veg were clearly out of the freezer,. The choice also wasn't that great, so we ate out the rest of the time. That said, the restaurant was not expensive for alcohol, and although we didn't eat any of the snacks at the poolside bar, the menu again was inexpensive. If you are looking for a cheap holiday, then this is for you, but if you're expecting consistently tasty food, then maybe not. I would recommend it, but only for its cheapness, cleanliness and its location.
