November 10,2009:
went for my birthday celebration stay during 07-09/11/09. Had a lovely surprise upon checking in when the staff mentioned they will upgrade our room from superior to their Club room. Thumbs up to the Management & staff which made this stay wonderful. Keep up the good job. -
October 29,2009:
We had a 24 hour stop over so we used this room for a quick sleep and to store our gear at the beginning of a 6 week holiday. Breakfast was a bit pricey so was found the local shopping centre and got a good breakfast for less. The hotel has a free bus that runs by it, so we used this to get to Orchard Rd. Once we got to Orchard Rd, we used the underground train to get around. The hotel let us use the showers at the pool before we headed out to the airport to continue on our holiday. Handy and quiet for a fun stopover. -
October 21,2009:
Having stayed in a number of hotels in Singapore on stopovers we found Copthorne Kings to be one of the best. The location is not particularly central but we knew that, having stopped in that area before. The Singapore Hopper can be picked up just outside - timetables available from the Miramar next door. This hop on hop off facility, run by Singapore Airlines takes you around the main places of interest. We found we liked the stylish understated feel of the hotel. Our room was in the tower and they apologised for giving us a twin bedded room. It was not large, but then we were only using it to sleep in and it was spotless. Beds are a shade hard, but mattresses you sink into aren't the ideal in a sticky climate. Bathroom also small but spotless and satisfactory. One slight problem - When taking a shower you need to be aware that the bath has a built-in step/seat in it. Generally we found the room was very quiet and restful. The buffest breakfast was good and we would certainly use the hotel again. -
October 5,2009:
Was in Singapore last month for the F1 Grand Prix with a bunch of mates and needed a place to stay that was reasonably well priced yet not really in the backpacker realm. Copthorne Kings was certainly good value for money and by no means was this the worst place Ive stayed at. Staff at the Kings were excellent... very polite and accomodating to everything we requested and could not fault them at all in that area. The hotel and rooms were all clean, well lit and the air con was excellent which is a must when the outdoor temp is a constant 33 degrees and 75% humidity... even at 3.30am!?!?!?!?! Now whilst the size of our room - which was apparently the the biggest room before moving up to a suite - was not too bad, the bathroom was... well tiny! I'm 6 foot 4 and standing in the middle of the bathroom i could virtually touch both walls, and its in this space where there is a shower/bath, toilet and sink. Not the most comfortable of bathing experiences and I'm a stickler for a good shower before heading out on the town. The beds also got a red card from me as they were waaaaaaay too firm... Actually some of the boys in the traveling party resorted to sleeping on the couch as this was actually a hell of a lot softer than the beds which were probably a shade softer than concrete... I know some chiropractor somewhere is creaming themselves over the first firm bed in hotel history, but give me a soft and cushy sack anytime! And the single bed size wasn't peachy either... almost fell out of bed a number of times... Finally the location is a little bit of a remote one... whilst there are a few hotels in the immediate vicinity, there isn't actually any major MRT lines servicing the area and taxis are heavily relied upon to get you to the nearest station (we tended to use Orchard Road). Though in all fairness its not a massive taxi fare especially when splitting it in a group. Couple of tips if you do stay here... Use the showers in the gym change rooms... each stall is as big as the bathroom in a regular room... dunno if this is kosher with the hotel but hey... got my daily spacious shower fix there with no problems. And to get around rock a taxi out to 'Ion Orchard' and then walk next door to the main MRT station... shouldn't cost you any more than 5-8 Sing dollars per trip... you can try find a bus near the hotel but this way you don't build up a sweat in the sauna that is daytime Singapore. And to all the nightclub fans... look no further than Zouk... about a 5 minute stumble down the road. All in all probably wouldn't stay here next time I'm in Singers as I'll opt for a more pimped out Hotel but if you are on a budget and subscribe to the old "A hotel room is merely to leave my bags" credo then I could certainly recommend the Copthorne Kings to you.
