November 8,2009:
Stayed here on a flying visit to Oslo. You couldn't pick a better location! We found the hotel very handy for sightseeing and shopping with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast wasn't great, however but there's no shortage of places to eat nearby. Would recommend for a city break. -
October 11,2009:
I am currently staying at the Best Western Bondeheimen as I write this review! I have to begin by pointing out that the Hotel?s location is perfect, you are literally 100 metres from the Karl Johans Gate which is the main boulevard in Oslo; EVERYTHING you will need/want to see is within easy walking distance! I picked this hotel based on the fair reviews on trip advisor, and I agree with the main pro?s and con?s listed. As far as the Hotel goes, in addition to the great location, it?s very safe. The Hotel Staff have been very welcoming and friendly and all speaking perfect English which has been a massive help. I am currently staying in a single room, which as others have pointed out is small, but overall it?s OK. My only problem is that it gets really cold in here, there seems to be a complete lack of heating in the room! I also have to mention that the walls are extremely thin meaning that both internal and external noise travels well ? not great if you?re a light sleeper ? I would recommend securing a room at the back of the hotel away from the main roads. In terms of breakfast, the Norwegian food looks great, it?s just not to my taste. I also feel compelled to mention that there is clearly not enough space within the restaurant so I would recommend going down either early or late to ensure you can actually get a seat! As all good guide books point out, Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world, what this means in reality is that everything over here will cost DOUBLE (maybe even more) what you would pay for the equivalent good/service in the UK, from food/drink to shopping/entertainment. Indeed staying here on a budget is difficult; bare this in mind. Additionally, I just finally want to mention that you only need 2 to 3 days in Oslo maximum, as the main museums/restaurants/shops/sites are within easy walking distance of each other you will have opportunity to do everything of importance with 2 days! I hope this helps, happy travelling! -
October 7,2009:
Travelled to Oslo for some meeting and also to spend a weekend. We all stayed at Hotel Bondeheimen and enjoyed it very much. The rooms was clean and nice, we requested rooms against the back and we all got it. The service was excellent with a friendly staff. The breakfast was good traditional Norwegian food served in Kaffistova, we also had a nice dinner there. Oslo is expensive, but the reception staff helped us to pick out some good places for food and drinks for a reasonable price. -
September 30,2009:
Stayed here on business on the night that Scotland played Norway in the World Cup Qualifiers, so undoubtably local hotels were at capacity; anyway arrived late and took my room key, only realising I had a single room once I got there. As I was on my own (and given the hour) I just went to bed The room was small (approx 9ft x 9ft) and had the usual amenities (TV, Desk, Ensuite) The bed was extreemly uncomfortable with absolutely no give and I would have probably got a better night sleep on the floor. The bathroom contained "hairs" from the previous occupant and generally the whole room was a bit grim All I can say is thank god the Scot's lost the football, as at least it was relatively quiet. Maybe I was just unlucky and got given a poor room because they were filled to capacity. Oslo is an expensive city and if you are on a budget this is a centrally located hotel, however if you have the money, I'd recommend staying in the Hotel Bristol across the road, it's worth the extra cash -
September 27,2009:
It was impossible to get a good night's sleep due to the level of streetcard noise and rowdy bar and restaurant goers who spilled into the streets in order to smoke... until 3-4:00 A.M. This was supposedly a smoke-free facility but we were unable to open the windows because the noise became unbearable and the smoke from smokers filled our room. Location and breakfast were great but it is important to get a night's sleep to say the least. Desk staff said ear plugs and fans were available!! That says it all. How about calling the police asking reporting people disturbing the police. Desk staff said they could not control what happened outside their hotel!
