September 16,2009:
The hotel picture on the website and the brochure is actually a picture of the Princess Hotel and not the Mavrias Apartments. We were a bit dissapointed when we turned up to be shown to apartments that were on the road and appeared to be seperate from the hotel we had thought we had booked to stay in. Although the facilities are shared with the Princess Hotel which seems very nice, it is not quite the same as actually staying in the hotel you thought you had booked! You also have to pay 7 Euros and night for a/c and 15 Euros for use of the safe for a week which seemed expensive and was not mentioned previously. The music was very loud from the Princess Hotel up until around midnight to. The traffic was very loud to throughout the night due to being on the road and having no double glazing. The owner seemed a bit unhelpful when asking him what time we needed to check out by. The resort as a whole was lovely and the beach to, but i would not stay at the Mavrias complex again. -
September 4,2009:
We returned home yesterday from a 2 week stay at the Mavrias. The complex is in a great location and the hotel looks great on arrival. We chose this hotel after visiting Tsilivi previously and being impressed at the location. We travelled with Manos and had a 2 room apartment. It was basic but spacious and perfectly adequate, it was situated away from the pool which suited us as it was quiet. We decided early on not to use the pool as it is shallow all over and it quite small. It was perfect for families but we opted for the beach. We had a few drinks in the bar and the staff were always lovely and polite. I had spoken to a few guests who were unhappy about the children being told off all of the time around the pool. As far as I am concerned if you go on holiday to a family hotel, kids are going to have a good time and make a bit of noise and splash, it is their holiday too! I think the problem was that there were a lot of greek families at the hotel when we were there and there was a bit of intollerance from them. This made the owner Babis REALLY cross. One day I was sitting having a drink and he started yelling in Greek at someone about the Thomas Cook rep and the guests. I didn't understand what was being said and I thought he was going to hit the man, he slammed his hand down so hard on the table next to me that I am surprised the table didnt break! Not exactly what I expect on a family holiday, particularly from the owner. When you go away you get a sense of a place and I would say my sense was of tension and unease, it felt like the owner was always watching you even if you couldnt see him. The holiday overall was great but I would definately not stay here again. We love Tsilivi so it would not put us off going back but I feel sorry for people that think this is what all greek people are like because it definately is not! I think Babis and his wife need to remember whats important as hotel owners and either loosen up or get out of the business. Shame because they have a great place and great staff. -
September 3,2009:
Before travelling i had read the reviews about the children being told off in the pools, but took it with a pinch of salt and decided that we would judge for ourselves. On arrival we were shown to our apartment which was ideally situated around the back of the complex, was quite spacious and clean but very basic, however, the view from our balcony was lovely. The apartment however was nothing like any of the pictures i had seen on the internet and talking to other families i don't know which apartments resemble those!! Our first week was good, however the second week was completely spoilt by Babass the manager shouting at the children who were having fun in the pool. He told me that paying customers were leaving because the children were making too much noise, i asked him what he thought we were as we certainly had not gone for free. The children were not noisy or a nuisance, in fact his music was louder than them. Zante is beautiful and Tsilivi is the ideal resort to stay in, the mavrias is centrally positioned, but not ideal for families with children who want to have fun on their holidays, unless you are Greek as it was ok for greek children to make noise! -
August 3,2009:
we have just returned from the mavaris apartments(the one's painted yellow around the back)and not the pink building at the front .i love zante as all our family does.we stayed in the mavaris self catering apartments for the first time as we went kalamaki last year, and wanted to go tsilivi this year.before the bad parts i would like to highly recommend tsilivi for it's beautiful beaches and fantastic food such as majestic(ask for dennis)he is a real gent and a great place to eat, valentinas is wonderful and speak to koota or cherie, and the warm and fresh bakery outside the mavaris complex is just superb(ask for alma the blonde haired lady)very helpful and great to the children.the really bad parts was the bar manager at the mavaris called freddie.he upset so many families by constant moaning at young kids from 3years old to 16years old for "splashing in the pool",even though he started to dive in then shouted at the kids for doing the same.this led to 6-7 families not spending much time there and led to a few heated words, what type of person stops a family from having a birthday cake for there dads birthday as he wont allow food near the complex(utter rubbish and disrespectful),so familys headed to the beach instead.several single mums with teenage girls were followed by the bar manager freddie, and the owner as they tried to give them free drinks(they thought they were easy prey)"it was pretty awful to watch and spoiled what should have been a great 2 weeks.like i said,i love the island and the greek people and i would go back, but never to this place again.a big thank you to joanne and emma who worked so hard for all the familys around the complex as they were a breath of fresh air.the old apartments were poor and run down.around 1star rating only,no hot water as it just dripped then stopped, constant cold showers for 2 weeks.even the rep from thomas cook said she hated the place.tsilivi is stunning just dont stop at this place. -
July 20,2009:
My partner and I stay for two weeks in July at the Mavrias apartments. The apartments and the pool / bar area are spotlessly clean and the staff very welcoming and friendly - especially Jo, Manos and Freddie. They all work so hard in getting you everything you need to have a great holiday. The bar area closes about 2pm and their isnt much noise after midnight. This is Greece and everything is so laid back, once you get into this you will have a great time. The best purchase of the holiday was 15 euros for a fan from the supermarket to avoid paying for the air con which (as advertised) is extra. Tsilivi itself is a safe place with some fantastic eating to be done, we ate at a different place every night starter, mains and wine approx 35 euros - so really good value. The best place of all though was King Prawn which is a different class to anywhere else, a full 3 course meal with 2 bottles of champage was 85 euros, a snip compared to what it would be in the UK. Would I go back, hell yes let me repack know. :-)
