  Situation has been described as isolated, but this is such a quibble - if you want peace and quiet, you've got it, together with a stunning view from the delightful and extensive beech acros to Greece. Sunbeds galore with free towels; warm sea; motor boat and pedalo hire and boat trips; good, spacious room with extra 'lounge' are where you could sleep one or two children; fine self-service restaurant with vast range of delicious food and variety; entertainment if you want it each evening at the beach tavern where you could also get a good bbq, drinks, or just a roll (all you need after the breakfast. Free internet two PCs off the large, marbled-floor lobby. Easy to get into Kerkyra by a short stroll to main road - as previous reviewer said, buy tickets at little shop just on your right at that junction, then take care crossing the fast road to bus stop opposite and No 6 buses every 15 minutes. Gouvia is not that far: as you reach the junction with main road you almost immediately turn right. We went there eager to take a trip on a flying boat but sadly this business is no more. Otherwise nothing special about Gouvia. One thing of great interest is that the hotel is just two villas away from the fine Venetian villa which Geral Durrell stayed in and no one seems to know. You can see it very clearly from the boat jetty, situated in extensive wooded grounds looking out to sea, surrounded by a long stone wall. Impressive, beautiful, but sadly dilapidated. Please please please look after the little cats which frequent the hotel grounds. They are so hungry, and not in good condition. At the end of the lane which leads to the main road is a general store (they call these supermarkets!) which sells catfood and you can discreetly feed the cats in the eveing. You make a lot of friends as many people of all nationalities wandering by also stop and coo over them, especially over the kittens. The grounds are very pleasant, retaining many gnarled old olive trees and spruce which would have been there before. The staff were kind and helpful, and efficient. Nothing at all to complain about and we felt very lucky to have found this comprehensively equipped hotel. We didn't even get to see the spa we were so busy on organised outings or bus trips out or enjoying the beach (it has a supply of games, by the way, such as ping-pong and netball). And the pronunciation is KonTAKali.

  We stayed here for two weeks in August, we paid for a Seaview room and the initial room they put us in (808) was not a sea view! If I stood on my tiptoes I could just about see the sea through the trees, so we did complain that day and they said they would move us the next day... to which they did to a great room with a sea view (as paid for)! the breakfast was fantastic, everything you wanted was there for breakfast and so much of it. The Swimming pool was clean and lovely and the beach was great. The sand is not the best sand and very artificial - not your perfect white sandy beach. but the sea water was great to lie around and swim in and so clear you can easiliy see the fishes swimming around you. the sun beds were actually comfy too! They have a great outdoor self service lunch, which again they have every food from hot to cold to choose and a fab big bbq each day that you can order what foosd you want on it. There is nothing in Kontokali bay and the nearest resturants are not worth going to. the next nearest village for shops and restaurants is Gouvia, but this is not a 15 mins walk as advertised in the brochures this is a good 45 minute walk away and along a main road so not a pleasant walk!. there is a bus that leaves the corner supermarket that takes you there and that only cost 90c, (you need to buy the bus tickets from the supermarket on the corner before getting on the bus) so bus in and taxi back that cost ?10. There are more bars and restaurants here, so are great some are not but its all part of the holiday sussing out the good ones! Across the busy road you can get the bus into Corfu town (bus tickets is only ?1.30 one way) work doing and Corfu town is lovely. Taxi back will cost ?15-?20 depends on who you get. We went to the Aqualand one day by taxi as busses didnt go that way is was ?20 each way by taxi and ?25 per person for entry, we had a good giggle and it was worth going to. Corfu itself is not onw of the best Greek islands as there is not that much to do there. but this hotel is worth staying at as it was clean, tidy and the food was good. the staff were always laughing after they finished there shift, so they were obvioulsy happy too. The Spa was great too treatments would be expensive, but the spa pool (fab) and the gym are great and all FOC

  Just returned from a relaxing 2 weeks at this hotel, was very suprised that so many people returned time after time, it was far too grown up for us and we are in our 50's. Room was very comfortable with pleasant views of the garden and hills beyond, but apart from sitting on the beach there was no other entertainment and nowhere to stroll in the evenings. Staff were very efficient and charming Although we did enjoy our stay we would not return

  We had a wonderful stay at Kontokali. We traveled with a toddler and a baby and found the hotel very accommodating. We found the staff amazing - extremely helpful and friendly. We would stay there again purely based on how good we felt the staff were. In addition, we found the rooms very clean, spacious and well presented; and the food was excellent. While only the buffet restaurant was open as we went early in the season, we never had any complaints about the quality or range of the food. We did not want a noisy place with lots of night life, so we were very happy as this hotel is a bit out of the way and we found it quiet and relaxing. The spa was very peaceful and relaxing, and the facilities for young children were also great with a lovely playground and great staff. We would love to return and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

  we have just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at the kontokali bay hotel. It was all we hoped for when we booked our honeymoon. The accomdation, facilities, food and the staff were excellant. The beach and pool were great and the views across the bay to corfu town were amazing. It was an experience in total relaxation and we will definitely return in the future. Janice and Paul Irving
