October 29,2009:
We booked this hotel via their website and got a good offer. We requested a non-smoking room. On arrival (12:00approx) our room was not quite ready, but they kept our luggage and said it would be ready in 30mins. We went for a walk and got lunch, came back the room was ready. It was quite small, but we didn't mind so much as it was clean, there was a good shower, comfortable bed, safe and most importantly it didn?t smell of smoke. The people on reception were very friendly and helpful with directions etc. We didn't have breakfast included in our deal, but with the range of cafes/patisseries etc in the area there was so much choice. This hotel is very, very central. It is 5mins walk from Vieux Ville (Old Town), right beside Place Massena, about 8mins walk to the sea front. There is a tram stop just outside the hotel on Place Massena. The main bus station (Gare Routiere) is 5mins walk or 2 tram stops away if you have lots of luggage. We purchased the ?15 7 day travel card. It was very cheap, covered the bus transfer (no98), the tram, our bus to the nearby towns of Villefranche Sur Mer, Vence and Saint Paul Vence. Would recommend it, very good value. The only other transport cost was the ?1 bus fare to Monaco as it is a principality and is out of the Nice Transport region. but ?2 for a return trip from Nice to Monaco is still fantastic value. The buses can be quite crowded, but if you get bus from Gare Routiere (starting point) you should get a seat. Only negative point we had was with the VeloBleu bike system. You have to book them via the telephone, and only one bike can be booked per telephone, so if you have a family of 4 you need each person to have their own phone in order to book it. We only had one phone, so decided not to bother and just hired a bike from local shop. We came across a terrific restaurant (La Maison de la Marie) on Rue Massena, food was excellent. Also in the Old Town there are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars. Try and Snug & Cellar, Ma Nolan?s who have live music. We spent a morning in nearby Villefranche Sur Mer (bus no 100 heading to Monaco), the harbour is beautiful. Also went up into the mountains to Vence (bus no 400) and St Paul Vence is a top on the way back to nice. Both places have great views and have plenty of character. If we were going back to Nice we will certainly stay at the Massena, the rooms are not state of the art and are small, but on holiday the most important things are helpful staff, value, cleanliness and location and the Massena ticked them all. -
October 21,2009:
We stayed at Hotel Massena for one night before going on a cruise. It was close to the old city and the Place Massena, the center of many activities, and a short walk to Cours Salena with rows of restaurants. Room was large with floor to ceiling windows and small balcony, large bathroom, separate toilet, king bed plus chairs. Good price through Expedia.. Staff pleasant and helpful in getting us a taxi to Monte Carlo to get to our ship -

Really enjoyed our stay at L'hotel Massena, Nice. Our room was lovely and cool in the hot weather. The location is amazing! Right next to Place Massena, the Vieux Ville, the sea front, the shops and cafes and the bus station! The room was clean with a lovely new, modern bathroom. Nice big room with cosy colours. The only thing that cold have made it better would have been a view. -
September 25,2009:
Lobby was attractive. Room was small but clean. Good bathroom and shower. The air was very humid and the air conditioner did not improve things. We had trouble sleeping. Only Valet parking at 30 euros per night. We parked in a public garage but that is 24 euros per night. -
September 23,2009:
Booked a privilege room in this hotel, asked for a 1pm check in - couldnt check in till 3pm and when we got to see the room What a let down ! A Tiny room at the back of the hotel, no balcony, no view, small bathroom etc . I have stayed in bigger 2 star rooms with better benefits / bathrooms etc. Complained to reception about the room - and asked what was "Privelege" about the room - they just said that it was a privlege room and tough. I took the brochure from the room and pointed out what they said about "Privlege" rooms in their own brochure - where was the Balcony, The view, The robes, slippers - all they said was that they would bring us robes and that if I didnt like it i could leave. So we left... we got a much nicer room in the Mercure, with Sea View, Balcony, Robes/ Slippers etc for a lower price and much nicer reception staff.
