November 6,2009:
A very nice hotel for a short stay in Nice. We stayed for 4 nights while we tripped around Nice , Cannes and Monaco and found this hotel to be ideal for the purpose. There are no frills but rooms are clean and comfortable with fridge, tea /coffee making facilities and TV (although no english channels). Breakfast is not worth 12 euros but you can snack in your room before going out for the day. Sometimes there are free pastries and cakes in reception during the afternoon. A bar / lounge in the hotel would have been nice but overall, nothing to complain about. -

I was a little nervous about the hotel on arrival. I found that my room overlooked the street and feared that the room might be rather noisy. However, the double glazing was excellent and I was not troubled by noise - I can imagine that in Summer with the wondows open it might be troublesome. On arrival, the receptionist explained that I would be issued with breakfast vouchers and that I should return any unused ones at the end of my stay. As I considered that 12 Euros was a lot for breakfast I chose to walk a few minutes towards the Promenade des Anglais where I found a perfectly adequate breakfast for 5.90 Euros. The room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and the tea and coffee were replenished each morning - a nice touch and one I had not experienced before in France. Additionally there are coffee and pastries available for free in the reception area in the afternoon as well as a computer with free Internet access. The coffee and pastries were very nice, although I thought it a little wasteful as on some days they were not finished up. The free internet access was useful once I had mastered the french notation keyboard. All in all the room very very comfortable with nice decor, a clean and well equipped bathroom with lots of toiletries, and a stylish television. Staff were polite and the night reception man was very friendly. All in all I would recommend this hotel thoroughly - I encountered none of the problems other reviewers have mentioned. -

This hotel is in a great location, the room we stayed in was spacious and clean with a nice bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but.......the hallway and the room smelled! It is hard to describe, perhaps stale sewage would be the best description. We had to buy air freshener! We didn't complain as we thought all the rooms might be similar, plus the hotel seemed pretty full. Also, the walls of the rooms must be paper thin as you could hear a lot of noise from adjoining rooms, in fact sometimes it was as if they were in the room with you! I think there are better hotels to stay in while in Nice -

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a four night stay at the Hotel Roosevelt in Nice. We booked through last minute, and chose Hotel Roosevelt as it had very positive reviews on trip advisor. However, I must say we were a little disappointed with our stay. On arrival we were told that our room was not ready as they were running late, and for us to come back in a couple of hours. Once our room was ready, although we had specified a non-smoking room, when we walked in we were hit by the strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. (There was also an ashtray in the room). The smell was awful and was noticable every time we came back into the room. We had asked for a double bed, but were given two single beds pushed together. Our room was on the first floor and was extremely noisy, it seems that we were next to the staff room and could hear the banging of doors and lockers that woke us up early almost every morning. Admittedly as we were just there for four nights we decided not to complain about the smoking/bed/noise. I must say that despite the smell the room was clean and the hotel was in a good location. It is in an up-market area next to boutiques, a 5 minute walk to Massena and close to beach and train station. We did get the hotel at a decent price, but I would just warn people that it is a basic hotel and you may not get the room type that you specify when booking. -
October 2,2009:
The staff were very friendly and helpfull. Our room, a triple, could have been a tinge bigger. We did have a balcony out front. We had the windows closed at night but the room air was set at a perfect temperature so that no one had a dry throat in the morning. This is actually the first hotel that wehave all slept well from the first night on. We stayed 3 nights. We did not eat breakfast ( too much, 12 euros ,money for breakfast). You have a water cooker with instant coffee and tea in the room.There is also a mini fridge. One of us went to the bakery every morning, just around the corner. During the day there is free coffee/tea, small pastry and goodies to have for free. The free internet in the lobby is great( when you have a teenager that loves facebook). Overall we would stay here again.
