November 9,2009:
We recently stayed here for a short vacation with two young children (18 mos and 4 years). We had upgraded to a deluxe room. The big draw for us was free access to all the facilities at Atlantis, which included more pools, beaches and waterslides than we could keep track of. Needless to say, we took full advantage of that and were very impressed with those facilities. As for Comfort Suites itself, well, to be honest, I was perhaps expecting a bit more for what they were charging - I've stayed in places that were much, much nicer for the same price or less. It wasn't particularly horrendous, just rather lacking for the price. I'd probably describe it as lower-end motel quality - overall appearance is rather shabby and run down, bathrooms (including the one in the room) are very dimly lit, and overall not particularly well-kept. In particular, the floors in the rooms didn't seem to be cleaned all that well. We usually take off our shoes at home and in hotel rooms. When we did that here our feet were covered with blackish dust/residue after walking around in the room. That being said, sheets and towels were changed daily and were fine. Late one night, I did find a little baby cockroach scampering in the sink. I only mention that because I absolutely hate bugs in rooms. Our package included continental breakfast, which was adequate - bread, waffles, bagels, donuts, a selection of 2-3 cereals, coffee, juice, and hard-boiled eggs. They also had other things available to order on the menu. The restaurant served lunch but we didn't have the opportunity to try it, as we were usually at Atlantis during the day. Note that they serve lunch in the afternoon, but do not serve dinner. The bar also closes, if memory serves, around 8, so you'd be well advised to plan your evenings accordingly. Service was polite but not particularly friendly, except perhaps for the concierge. I think they have a few, but the one we dealt with, Barbara, was quite helpful in assisting us with navigating Atlantis. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a downside to this - she pitched us quite hard to attend a presentation by "Royal Vacations". She mentioned that we would get a voucher for a free 2 or 3 day (can't remember which) stay at another resort just west of Nassau just for attending a presentation, plus a couple of free t-shirts. We thought it was some sort of vacation booking company (and she definitely made it sound like one). She was very friendly about it so we agreed to attend. We later found out from another guest that it's a presentation for a time share, not a vacation booking agency. So be forewarned. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that they are trying to rip you off or anything - it may well be your cup of tea and worth your while to sit through a presentation and get the free hotel stay. But you should know what's being pitched, and it certainly wasn't clear to us when we were invited. Note that such pitches aren't limited to Comfort Suites. When we asked for directions at Atlantis we were also pitched for a timeshare at Atlantis, also with a freebie - a free Dolphin Cay encounter or a voucher that could be used at Atlantis worth about $100. The woman we talked to was quite clear about what it was, however - she stated it would be a sales presentation for a timeshare at Atlantis. We were also pitched again at Woodes Rogers Walk for yet another timeshare. But I digress. Knowing what I now know, I would have probably shelled out the extra bucks for Atlantis. That may be more personal to me - I generally prefer fairly nice surroundings when I go on vacation. For you, if you're looking for a bargain, and not too fussed about the room you sleep in, then this place may be the perfect ticket for you. -
November 8,2009:
Had a stay reserved but decided to splurge and stay at Atlantis. Called the 1 800 number and canceled well in advance. Two months later the charge showed up on my card! Called the 1 800 number, they said I had to deal with the hotel. Called the hotel, they said I had to deal with the 1 800 number. I asked the hotel manager why it took so long to bill my card. He said "We wait a month to see if you show up". Sounds unbelievable, but that is exactly what he said! I can only imagine what the service must be like if you actually make it to the hotel. I assure you I won't be staying there in the future! Beware! -
November 3,2009:
My husband and I took a quick trip (4 nights) here to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival they told us that they only had double beds available. After a quick search, the woman at the front desk found us a room with a king bed - unfortunately it was on the end of the hotel FURTHEST from access to Atlantis. Not such a big deal, but after all of the walking we did, it would have been nice to have a closer room. Atlantis is extremely close to this hotel (literally across the street) - I think it took longer to walk the length of Comfort Suites than it actually did to get to Atlantis. We were in room 576 but I think the closer rooms were (any floor) in the 20's or 30's. Ideally, if you're only using this hotel for its access to Atlantis, the best room to have would be something like 225. The room itself was nice - it had a sitting area, a small refrigerator and a large vanity/bathroom. There are no balconies anywhere in the hotel, and it is a non-smoking hotel, so you would have to go all the way outside to smoke if that's your thing. They offer a free breakfast everyday, but it leaves a lot to be desired - all they had was bagels, eggo waffles, small danishes, hard boiled eggs and a few cereal choices. If you like peace and quiet, the pool was completely empty every day since everyone was over at Atlantis. It seemed very nice, but we didn't use it. One word of advice - the "concierge" is going to seem like she wants to help you, but she's only there to try to get you to sit in on their hour and 1/2 timeshare seminar. Finally, access to Atlantis is FULL access - as if you were staying there - it's fantastic! -
November 3,2009:
We have just returned from staying at CS and it proved to be a good choice. The hotel itself is fairly basic but the rooms are all suites so a good size to accommodate families. A continental buffet breakfast - which is included in the rate - is on offer which is quite a rarity on Paradise Island! Breakfast consisted of the usual carbs but you do have the option of having eggs, bacon etc at extra cost. The real plus about this hotel is its location and particularly the close proximity to Atlantis where all the activities there are on offer at no extra cost! Its fantastic...as the Atlantis resort is HUGE with many pools and a multitude of choice on restaurants. There is a pool at CS but no other activities. No need to carry around loads of cards/cash while you explore Atlantis either as you can charge back to your CS room. We've stayed at the Atlantis resort before and although we thoroughly enjoyed that experience, it is expensive! Staying at CS is less expensive overall and better value for money in our experience. Rooms at the Atlantis are in fact smaller than those at Comfort Suites but the level of services, activities and attention to detail at Atlantis far outweighs CS but CS is still v.good value for money. I would certainly recommend this little gem for a family holiday in paradise! -
October 29,2009:
Having enjoyed Atlantis on a prior trip (see earlier review), my family (w/kids 10 and 14) thought we would try to save some money staying here instead of Atlantis. As advertised, a Comfort Suites pass is accepted seamlessly everywhere in Atlantis. The hotel is only about a four minute walk from Coral Tower so this is a money saver with very little inconvenience. Cost us $200 per night, a considerable savings over Atlantis. That said, the hotel was disappointing and we all felt we should have spent the extra money and stayed at Atlantis. The sheets were thin and worn, the cleanliness questionable, and there is just something shabby about the place. It isn't even up to standard Comfort Suites or Inn standards. It is a couple of steps above dumpy. Breakfast was minimal and coffee was terrible. There was that medicinal motel smell on the lowest floor that travelers learn to fear. Second floor was better. I've traveled everywhere and stayed in Four Seasons and in tents so I am not a clean freak or spoiled traveler, but this was a disappointment for what was advertised. Staff was very nice and accommodating. There are real savings here but note that there is an energy charge and a 9$ cleaning charge per day. Atlantis is far worse with the add-ons. Wireless internet here is less than $10/day which is good for Bahamas. Patrons are a nice crowd. Atlantis is great for the family and one can save real money here. So if you need to save somewhere to make the trip possible, this works. Personally, I'd rather spend extra and stay in Atlantis, but that's because I can afford it. If it means going or not going to Atlantis, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.
