November 8,2009:
We stayed in the Cove Suites in early November this year. Ground Floor (3G) We didn't see any of the other rooms so couldn't comment on those, however the Cove suites rooms are great, very reasonably sized. TV in the bedroom and Living room, and they have a DVD player for the odd night when you want an early night, although unless you fancy a trip down memory lane, bring your own DVDs!. The previous comments about bathrooms being audible from the bedroom are true, so I wouldn?t stay in one with a stranger!, however overall it all well laid out. Each Cover suite building (which has 6 suites and a penthouse), has its own infinity pool, which doesn't need to be heated because by about 9am its warm from the sun. So you can spend the day around these pools (they have a small bar nearby where they bring you drinks from), or you can stay at the main pools. Staff are very attentive and friendly, you can have some great chats if you want to otherwise they'll leave you in peace. Its the first time we been back to an all inclusive for 8 years, as we generally are wary of the quality. We were fine though, I'm not sure how it would vary over two weeks, but for the week we were there, there was a good choice of restaurant quality food. We took the all inclusive option, and that was good value in the end, (unless you only plan on sleeping in the hotel I guess). There are three restaurants, The Palm, Vyviene's and the Cove. The Palm is open every day and mixes between full service, and a variety of buffet types e.g. Barbeques. The Vyvienes is more of a formal restaurant. The Cove was shut while we were there, and apparently is only open when its busy, (while we were there, Antigua still appeared to be fairly quite). Sorry we were lazy, so didn't try any of the water sports activities, we saw many people going out and coming back looking happy-ish, and apparently the 'eco tour' is good. (best I can do there). Weather forecasts are to be ignored when looking from the UK, they seem to base it on the lowest common denominator, and since it does rain almost every day for a little bit, it seems to ignore the burning hot sunshine that is there most of the rest of the time!. The beach and general bay location are nice and quite, although on its own, so you would need to get a taxi to go to other places, but the staff sort those out with no issues. The gardens look fantastic, and they clearly take a lot of effort looking after them. We really needed a relaxing break, and this was just the ticket. -
November 6,2009:
Starting with the positives. The Cove Suites are luxurious and very well appointed. Probably the best bed and mattress I have ever slept on. The bathroom is large enough to dance in and the bath made my partner purr. Shower was adequate but with poor pressure and tricky workings. Large sitting area very comfortably furnished. The balcony excellent and gave an uninterrupted view of the ocean. The unpolluted clarity of the horizon was a daily joy. The hotel is a gorgeous property with a nice beach and three pools. Each of the four Cove Suite blocks also have a private pool and bar. The staff are mainly very friendly and helpful and for the most part the facilities are first class. On the other hand. The catering was disappointing. The Cove Restaurant and Terrace, which compliment the Cove Suites, were closed and we did not know this until we arrived. This left the Palm Restaurant as the main eating place and to be honest this was very humdrum and ordinary fare. Vyvians, the so-called quality restaurant was only open a couple of nights and it was by no means outstanding. Breakfast was good but in truth any old hotel should be able to manage that and at these prices the choice and variety of food leaves much to be desired. We will go again but probably in less expensive quarters. -
November 2,2009:
We stayed at Blue Water in the Cove Suites in October. Coves Suites are new, well furnished with very comfortable beds, large bathrooms and great views - but sadly they are noisy. If you have anyone staying in the suite above, you will hear them walking around and moving furniture, running their bath, flushing toilet etc. Hall areas noisy too - doors slam, people shouting and talking to each other early morning and late at night as they leave and go in to their rooms. If you are a light sleeper or want a lie in these rooms are probably not for you. Bathrooms offer little privacy - only a sliding louvred door between the bed and the loo - not everyones idea of luxury! Main door to the block of suites does not shut on their own so you have to rely on guests shutting it each time they leave the building or come back. One evening a very abrupt security guard told me to 'shut the door' for my own security. Made me feel very uncomfortable for the rest of my stay, as I shut it but next guests left it wide open. Rooms kept very clean. Lots of clean towels - but should be for the price. Pool areas nice. Small beach well looked after. Went all inclusive - food was unimpressive. Got terribly bored with it by end of our holiday. Too many buffet style, carvery type meals. Birds helped themselves to the croissants each morning at breakfast. Even though this was frequently brought to the attention of the waiting staff by guests, they did very little about it other than put a far too small net over so the birds just carried on pecking and goodness knows what else at the bread around the edges of the net - yuck! And of course next guests left the net off so birds got straight back to their breakfast! This really put me off my breakfast. Only two restaurants open, and one of these - Vyviens - was only open a couple of nights a week. This is furnished a bit like a Bernie Inn or Harvester. Ended up having all our meals in the Palm restaurant. The new Cove Restaurant was shut - maybe waiting for the high season, however as we had paid a lot of money to stay in this hotel I would have expected it to be open. Most staff were friendly, some extremely lovely, fun people - but some were rude. One guy shouted across a terrace at my husband to "Put your shirt on!" no 'please', just "Put your shirt on". We weren't even in the restaurant, we were coming up the stairs from the pool area to the restaurant for tea and my husband had every intention of putting his shirt on before he got inside the restaurant. This was an inappropriate way to speak to a guest. Watersports equipment tired. Guys at watersports very good. This hotel is expensive and tired in parts and I didn't feel we got value for money. -
October 29,2009:
Stayed with our boys (6 & 7) for two nights. The hotel was clean, staff friendly and helpful and the setting stunning. The quality of food and wine was very good and the kids menu for dinner well thought out. Despite having no kids club, etc. there were quite a lot of families with a huge range of ages (as it was half term) who all seemed happy. While the main beach is small, it did not feel crowded with the other pools and bay to allow people to spread out. Our suite was perfect as it allowed the kids to effectively have their own room. The scale of the resort also made it feel very safe for them and meant service was attentive with enough staff to offer good service. Everyone smiled and asked if they could help, etc.. Thanks in particular to Cheryl for helping with a last minute booking. -
September 10,2009:
This was the most amazing holiday ever! We have only been back 4 days and I have been telling everyone ! Blue Waters has a special history for my family as it was where my Grandparents took my mother in the 70s when they visted Antigua for the first time. They loved Bluewaters so much that a year after that my mother moved to Antigua to live and met my father. So I have always wanted to go. My boyfriend knew and booked it and surprise surprise, on our first night in Blue Waters he proposed to me in the Palms restaurant (after months of secret planning on his part! ). The staff were incredible, (thank you Dale for always keeping our drinks topped up without us ever having to ask !) the room was impecible, the beach and pools just perfect. We really felt incredibly special and were treated amazingly. The location itself is also so incredibly stunning and the overal atmosphere is a kind of divine relaxation. I cannot fault it all. I can't wait to go back there!
